How we rate the games?
Since the first Tropico game, it has evolved quite a lot and the graphics have become amazing. The gameplay is exactly the same, but with some additional stuff. This means that there are more buildings and the game AI (artificial intelligence) is greatly improved. Unfortunately, there wasn't any great improvement over the third and fourth Tropico. I would recommend getting this game only if you have had the first or the second, since you will see a huge improvement over them.
When starting the game, you can choose the dynasty name so that your Presidente will have its surname. It is also as a savegame since you can choose the dynasty to continue where you left off. The game also has the campaign and sandbox mode. When starting the game as campaign, you will have to choose between two islands. Depending on which island you choose, you will see that if you start another game in the same island, it will have all the buildings that you left it off. (depending on the mission though) There are easy missions and difficult missions, so at first don't be surprised that it is very easy, especially if you choose easy settings.
The sandbox mode allows the player to select the difficulties of the game, such as economy, plantation, mining and more. You choose how you win the game and what era you start playing. If you have fun playing the sandbox, you can choose to continue on playing without finishing the game at all. You also choose a dynasty in sandbox mode and you will have the choice to select how the main player will look like and what will be his first name, his ability and then you can start playing. Depending on the skill you choose, you will have a plus and it will work for all the island. Talking about the island, you can also choose your preferred island, small or big, with a lot of plantations or not, with mines and a lot more.
When playing the game, you will have to build a lot of stuff, so one of your most important buildings is the construction office. As you will see when starting the game, you have already setup the palace, construction office and teamsters office. The palace is the imperial building where your solders and your main character live. You can change how much payment earns each of the solders or any worker around the island. The payment also means the efficiency of the workers, doing the job. The teamsters office is the place where workers will go and find resources around the island and send them to the dock or to other places needed. In the modern era, the teamsters are extremely important since you will need them work a lot because of the industries, but also because the streets will eventually get stuck because of the cars, so adding more streets will also mean better work for the teamsters and movement around Tropico.
Right-clicking will show you a construction interface where you can select whatever building you want and place it on your island. There are numerous buildings, but the most important ones depend on the era you are playing. At the beginning of the game you will need farms, church, library, high school and others. Depending on how you do the economy and how well your workers are doing their mining, woodcutting or whatever other job, you will be earning more, allowing you to build since all those buildings cost money.
Last but no least, the sounds are quite nice but might become too repetitive. You can switch off the music if you don't like it, anyway. Thanks for reading this review and don't forget to share and comment if you liked it! See you next time.
