How we rate the games?
Stronghold 3 is part of the Stronghold franchise. Even though it didn't give any successful reaction from the people when it was released, the game was actually very good. There is a lot to talk about so let's get started!
The graphics of the game are sweet and I really like the placements of objects, done in a pixel basis. The game was fun and it was just like the original, but with some tiny changes in gameplay. It is good to know that not much has changed, since nearly all games which come out today are clearly worse than their predecessors. Being released in 2011, Stronghold still has its own impact on strategy games and it is a very good game. There is a lot to know about the game though, before deciding if it is right or wrong to buy it. If you have played the old Stronghold games and if you really liked them, than this one is for you.
There was no single player or skirmish levels, but instead there were some of the notorious wars around the world. I really liked the idea, but it feels not as free of gameplay as the other strategy games out there and there were not a lot of stages. The game was really interesting, when you start getting wood, stone, food and other stuff. The more you want to built, the more people you will have to give house in order to go to work and help you out.
During the medieval eras, you had a lot of warriors with metal armor and castles fulled with stone. This is exactly as this game is trying to do, trying to confess that era. I really like medieval themed games so this might be one of my favourites, but I can tell you that the gameplay is somewhat boring because you have to wait too much for your objectives and your players to move. This might be the only boring thing this game has, but you might also get irritated by the random negative impact you get on your population or when your food goes to zero. I think this is exactly how it happens in real life, so there is no really bad stuff here.
The optimization of the game was quite great and there might be some little bugs, which I didn't notice at all while playing, but the overall is amazing. All the players went to work, the king defeated the bear, crops grew with the passing of time and a lot of other stuff worked as it should. I liked the weather though, because it changed out of nowhere and the bright days with sun are very exciting. The stockpile got filled like in real life, people died when they went to the disease, so I don't really know why people around the internet are complaining.
Being settled in Medieval era, Stronghold 3 give you the same amount of adrenaline the people had while fighting. I can tell you that even if it seems like a really bad idea to do bad stuff, like killing other enemies, that is exactly as it happened during that time. There are also the notorious battles inside castles where you have to defend or attack the castle and make the enemy troops fall down. I really liked the idea of the real life stories which happened in medieval era, but that doesn't mean that the game doesn't have anymore resources. You can play other campaigns and understand what happened during that time.
The sound is very good, just like in medieval eras where people talked to the king. You might become a very evil king and people will get angry, otherwise you might give good stuff to people and they will adore you. Every time you clicked on a building which had a problem, a voice of a servant will tell you what is happening. It is exactly the same voice as it was on the first one of the series and I think that voice is perfect for this job!
Overall the game is very good, despite the bad sales it had during its release. Maybe people are fed up with the same gameplay and play the old one again and again. I don't really know but I assure you that this game was really worth reviewing, so you can have a better point of view next time you see Stronghold. Have fun!
