How we rate the games?
Star Trek originates from the TV series. If you really liked it, you should buy this game. If you have never seen the TV series, but just have heard about it, you better read this review! Actually, I have never seen a single part from the TV series, so you will bet this review is going to be truly unbiased. If you are a futuristic guy, you better watch out, cuz this game is gonna make you thrilled. Alright, let's begin the journey.
Since I don't know the true story behind the scenes and seeing those guys in the TV from a futuristic point of view, I always thought that it was going to be very bad. It turns out it was quite good as a story and I liked it a little more than Dead Space 3 (These two games have their similarities). The problem is though on the mechanics of the game. The combat felt so bad, leaving but no choice to rate the idea more than optimization.
Talking about gameplay, there are numerous stuff you could do. Moving, running, shooting, grabbing and much more, are all part of this game which after all, can leave you some good feelings. There are also some mini-games which will unlock more points when completed. The characters felt somewhat dump though, especially when opening doors, even though it might have been part of the TV series. I liked the idea of crouching when the radiation of the magma from another sun occurred.
The graphics where pretty good, especially the lightning. The models had were very detailed and sculpted accurately. Also, even the textures where pretty good and the special effects too. As we have seen in gaming history though, graphics doesn't impact a lot the game to become a legend (like minecraft) even though it does have its own effect.
The optimization was pretty bad and I didn't like especially the physics of the game, compared to other games. It felt somewhat bad and I think the developers concentrated more on creating a Star Trek like game, rather than a unique game itself. This means that the story and the characters had to be as similar to the film as possible. This doesn't change anything though, since it has its own reason why it is a game and they might have as well cancelled it. I hated the jumps, the time you had to wait for your partner and other stuff which only added a bad reputation for the game.
The idea was good, I really liked it. It was based on the original series, but you could have the story plus the game, so there wouldn't be any compromises either. You gain two in one and what else would you want more? Anyway, there is its own bad stuff and sometimes the story felt like there wasn't any connection and there was no real reason why this stuff is happening (Same thing as Bioshock Infinite, but this is better cuz you understand it somehow).
Overall, it was more about the story rather than the game itself. I wouldn't recommend it if you like unique games with good optimization.
