Sonic Racing reminds me of Crash Team racing because a lot of the features are nearly the same. I was amazed by the number of races the game had, so it has really been a great work from the developers team. It's really fun and got a lot of stages, cars to race and other stuff, like mods which will be used to modify your selected car.
During the game, you get to choose a lot of cars, which are driven by different characters. I loved the crazy taxi guy, only because of that taxi game, old memories. The game was quite interesting too, since you could even drift, use different power-ups and the graphics where very nice. The level of detail in this game, was good enough so no remorse on that.
Graphics are normally not its best, since it was as the main idea to use cartoons instead of real world characters. Judging by the other sonic game I have reviewed, this one has no comparison and it is clearly a great game. There is a lot to learn through the game, since you have 3 levels of difficulty for each race and need to get a driving license good enough to finish first. The optimization of the graphics was good, there is nothing wrong with that, but at least as far as I played it. The more you play the more you will like it.
The idea of the game is very clear, finish first. This will not always be the case, because there are stages where you have to drift to finish before the time limit and stages where you are against a ghost, where you have to beat him in time. After playing some time, you even get to unlock new characters with more powerful skills, enabling you to have a better car than all the others.
You get to play the career, championship, time attack or single player mode, each of them having different requirements for you to claim the trophy. Even though it might seem too little, I assure you that this game would need a lot of time before it is completed and even after that, you would need to finish all stages in hard difficulty, consuming an immense amount of time.
The sound may become boring, since the game needed a lot of workings behind, before leaving two or more players talking in the same time. When getting power-ups, some weird noises might come up, but I think that is for the sake of the cartoon idea. When you get the all-stars power-up, you have all things packed up, like flying, dashing, using bullets and all kind of stuff which will benefit you during like 20-30 seconds.
Overall, the game was great fun, a lot of stuff to play with and what is the best thing, is when you play with your friends, splitting up the screen, or through internet. This reminded me of the Crash Team Racing, marking some nostalgia through its path, but it is not this one, the only game with cartoon racing teams. Have fun playing it!
