How we rate the games?
Song of the Myrne is an Indie game created by a french developer. The game was quite interesting, but somewhat difficult to understand at first. One of the difficulties I found out while trying to play the game were the command keys which were put in a weird way. Even this being said, the game had an option to change its keys and you could play with ASDW as I always do.
The gameplay was very good and showed a lot of potential. You will hear a lot of little stories about people's problems, while trying to solve some quests. The game quickly started as an obsession because your character could progress with levels, herbalism and mining. Each level you progressed allowed you to add a single point to your characters abilities which was easily made by opening its panel and than clicking on the plus sign. The herbalism and mining skill didn't seem to do much though, except the chance of gathering stuff was greater.
The game was very accurate, even the stories. One of the greatest things was that you could combine stuff in certain places which looked like workshops. There were several workshops, each with their own possibilities. Depending on which one you are at, you can combine mushrooms collected from herbalism, or ingots collected from mining. By adding one, two or three mushrooms of the same type, you could easily get yourself a drink. Different drinks have different powers, like life and mana. With the other workshop, you could combine stuff to make weapons or other interesting stuff.
During the game you could open doors and enter nearly at every place, unless you needed a key which, depending on the place, would make you find it. The game also had some interesting places like the shop where you could buy potions or stuff which could not be found in the game. I was interested in getting the home key which costed 500 coins so I had to sell a lot of stuff combined on workshops, until I finally made it to buy my own home. In the inside there was everything you will need to combine stuff, stash in the treasure chests and even a save game. By the way, depending on the place, the save game was quite interesting as a glowing effect.
When talking about the graphics, the rating is another story. Judging by the pixel stuff, it was really boring and graphics obsessed players would get bored quite fast. There was even some other logos which was taken from other games. Even though it would not be copyrighted, the idea of a unique game is more interesting than copying other stuff from other people, but it would make sense in the next paragraph.
Finally, when I got very happy playing this game, I found out it was just a demo! I felt somewhat angry because the game was taking off, but at least we could hope that its developer could make some efforts to release the entire game. One last thing is the sound of the game, which was quite good.
Overall it's your choice to play the game or not, but always remember that the game is totally free and just a demo.
