How we rate the games?
Slender the Arrival is a game part of the Slender franchise. All who have already played Slender, or read one of our reviews about Slender, will certainly know that this is a horror game. It succeeds in giving that horror feeling about it, so if you like horror games, this one is certainly for you.
I was terribly disappointed about the graphics optimization, which made me lower a lot of settings. This is quite obvious when you create a game using software, that let's you build the game. Unfortunately, I didn't see any big improvement after the first one, with some exceptions of the story and other stuff which was somewhat boring, since I had to look around for quite a while before actually understanding what should I do. This though has its good parts too, since you have to use your brains just like it would happen in real life.
The graphics are somewhat improved over the first one, but as you could see, that is the maximum capacity that this game gives with a 6770HD and is performing like a 2006 game. The disappointing aspects are not finished, since you just start the game and have to do the same stuff exactly the same as the first one, collect objects. Nothing really new to be happy with, just that if you actually enjoyed the first game, you will also enjoy this one.
This has nothing to do though with professional games renown as A++ games. Don't mistake software made games, like Slender, with programmed games, since there is a huge difference between the two. If you take for example Assassin's Creed which had a very big city, a lot of animations to be made, grass movement, people's movements, models, sculpting and much more, this Slender The Arrival has only you and has worse frames than AC! Can you believe that one person with some grass around sucks up the entire GPU power? This happens when you make games using software and is a hard lesson to learn which will hardly disappear from game programming. I felt amazed at how low the Frame Rate went, even though the game was implementing some of the advanced features like SSAO, which was first implemented in Crisis, so the guys who created this game actually knew so much programming that it blew off their heads, making the game run tremendously slow. I don't really know how much time did it take to create Slender as a character, but it was exactly the same as the first Slender, no big deal. I liked the special effect though, when Slender was near you, by squeezing the screen.
The game is concentrated more on the horror idea than in any other parts, but I was amazed at how stupid was the idea of implementing some of the highest graphics possible and the game was still running with bad graphics. The horror idea is quite interesting, but as I mentioned before, it is the exact same gameplay to catch the specified number of objects, while Slender is after you. I was very disappointed by this, since that is what the so-called programmers had to concentrate with, they didn't understand why the people liked their game and if it is going to stay exactly like that, other developers will certainly bring a new idea based on this one. Even though I mentioned some bad stuff, this doesn't mean that the game won't have a success in the video game market.
Talking about other bad stuff, like lightning which passed through objects, grass which stayed still, the camera which wasn't actually on your hand when looking at your shadow, doors which had to open with the mouse movement and much more, made you actually feel that the game was somewhat badly ported. Even though the creators actually say that the game was the continuation of the Slender 8 pages experiment, I don't think so. It was just the bad Copy Paste of the first one, with some additional stuff. If it was just an experiment, why didn't its creators add new gameplay or at least some gameplay to say that it is no more an experiment?
The game itself feels like a bad ported game from the console, just like GTA IV. Even though I am not meaning that it really is, it usually happens to have tremendously low framerates with a powerful GPU (My GPU handles AC with higher FPS and all high settings). The optimization is nothing compared to other games and I don't think the first game was an experiment at all. The first game was free and this is why it had such a high reception from the people. Even though other major websites have called the game as pure horror. Actually, the game might make some people laugh because Slender is somewhat a funny creature with a collar. I think you just get scared because you are waiting for him to show up!
Overall, if I had to rate this game only based on horror and to the reception that people are so scared playing this game, I would actually rate this game high. Since these are truly unbiased game reviews, it is natural that bad optimization, graphics and somewhat gameplay, because you, Slender and some other creatures will show, this game truly is going to suck. The game is selling for as low as 10$, but you can get additional items if you pay more. For me though, this game wasn't good at all and I better play Resident Evil 6, or others and don't waste my time and money on this. Good luck and don't forget to leave your opinion down below!
