How we rate the games?
Shadowrun Returns is a very anticipated game from Shadowrun fans since 1994. I am talking about Shadowrun in Sega Genesis, because the latest Shadowrun games were crap. Due to a kickstarter project, the Shadowrun developers could create a game which is similar to the original Shadowrun game. After a year and all the struggle they had programming this stuff (and after a successful kickstarter campaign) Shadowrun returns is out now!
Before we start I want to mention something. I was actually waiting for the original Shadowrun gameplay and especially the matrix where you could infiltrate computers and hack the security. You could buy new decks and stuff like that, but this new Shadowrun was very different in gameplay and that is one of my biggest disappointments, but at least this is my opinion. I was truly disappointed to see a turn based gameplay, which had nothing to do with the real Shadowrun. Apart from that, the camera sucked too. You could not even rotate it so never mind the original one but that is why they got so many backers, only because of the original one, not because of the graphics.
If you review this game as a new game which has nothing to do with other pre sequels it would normally rate good for a turn based game, but if you are talking about a game which derives from Shadowrun and you get XCOM: Enemy Unknown I am really shocked, I mean it was meant to be like Shadowrun and turns out another games which has nothing to do with it. XCOM is a far better game though and you would be really enjoying it if you love turn based. A lot of people love these kind of games, but seeing such a thing which has nothing to do with the game promised it's ridiculous.
I am striving to understand why gamers love this game, since they were waiting for Shadowrun gameplay. Anyway, if we talk about the visuals, they were amazingly improved and I am happy for this. I have to say though that the gameplay ruined everything for those waiting for the original game. Last but not least, there is a definitive excuse for this though. The original developers of Shadowrun requested to use its original blueprints into this new game, but were not allowed to do it. This at least makes me somewhat happy because it wasn't the developers intention to end up with a game like this.
The optimization was very good, you could barely find any bugs. The sounds were pretty ok and the idea of the game left a lot to desire since it was copy pasted from XCOM. You are the judge though, cuz there seems to be a lot of people to like this game.
