How we rate the games?
Saints Row The Third is a game exactly as GTA IV, but with some notable differences. First of all, it was the graphics, even though these games had a lot in common. Second, the game had somewhat better interface. If you talk about similarities, that is another story. Since you start, you feel like playing in the GTA IV level, where you have your bed and TV. Let's start talking about this game.
Gameplay is fun, actually it's better than GTA IV. You get to use cars, motor-bikes and all stuff exactly copied and might feel somewhat of a joke. The customization, especially of the car, was very detailed. Guess what, that made me remember Need for Speed Most Wanted, but it wasn't that great. I was greatly discouraged to play this game, because of some details which made me feel like I was actually playing other games. Depending on how much stuff you have pre-unlocked when you start the game, you might watch some weird costumes, or even underpants which might become uncomfortable for some.
The graphics were definitively very good. Using DirectX 11 and especially some of the lightning effects I really like, it catches my attention, but that again reminded me of another games, Sleeping Dogs. Actually Sleeping dogs was better, but I will add some notes at the end of it. The framerates where not as good as I expected and somewhat started to drop little by little and gained speed back again. I was actually using the full potential during the recording of the game and it ran somewhat better when I stopped recording, so another aspect was the recording itself who made me see less FPS. The graphics, even though using DirectX 11, didn't use its full potential and wasn't optimized accurately.
Optimization was exactly that of GTA IV and I really felt like this was just a remake. The game mechanics where somewhat better, but it still was disappointing. You can find the bugs by yourself, without any need of a helping hand. When it comes to the options the game gives, that is its best side. I was blown off by the choices and as I said before, liked the car customization. Everything worked fine there and even when you play missions, using the GPS will work exactly as it should.
Idea was somewhat interesting. I didn't like the brutality of this game, trying to kill a lot of people, but overall was good. First levels where ridiculously as GTA, or even the idea where you go and find stuff, but after making some mods to your car and buying a dress, you will find yourself in front of the first boss of the game. It made me feel like I was playing another game again, which was Spider-Man. The idea is somewhat the combination of other games and I don't think it is really unique, but it worked out to be good. This is the most important aspect of it.
Sounds where very good, not saying exceptionally good. They worked as they should and nothing went wrong with it. Talking about the controls, they were exactly as in other games, so no need to be afraid of it.
Overall, the game is just a remake of GTA IV, which works good. If I was to suggest between the two, I would definitively suggest Saints Row The Third, but if you really want the best of open worlds and games like this, I would definitively recommend to go with Sleeping Dogs. Have fun playing!
