How we rate the games?
Rogue Legacy resembles a lot to Castlevania Symphony of the Night. The idea though seems to be somewhat different with a unique taste from its developers. The game is perfectly coded, good graphics and you won't stop playing for quite a while with this game. The idea of gathering coins and buying better equipment and upgrades made you play a lot with it until you become enough powerful to defeat the bosses.
The gameplay is very simple and fun. The controls are very intuitive even though you moved with arrow keys and now with ASDW. You will start by learning the game with a very simple tutorial and you will have to upgrade your skills each time you earn enough money. The problem is that the skills become even more pricier the more you upgrade. For example, if you buy health for your player, upgrading it, will immediately make all other upgrades need more more to level up.
At first you find yourself in a castle and you always have to pay death all your money you have gathered and not spent. The more money you earn and the more upgrades you unlock the more new upgrades will come up. The real problem with this is that you will have to spend a lot of money, thus making you want to upgrade as much as you can. I really liked the idea and this game made me play for 3 days without stopping. When you upgrade the smithery or the mage you will find even more upgrades. When playing the game you will find yourself inside the damned castle and will have to defeat a lot of enemies. There are four areas in the game (as far as I have played) and each area has its own boss. Depending on which one you are at, the more difficult it will become in comparison with the starting place.
Dark, forest and maya have their own difficulties but I found forest to be the easiest, maya next and dark the most difficult. The easier the enemies are to be defeated the easier will be for you to earn money during your journey. If you die during battle you will be respawned where you can upgrade stuff. Before upgrading though, you will be asked to select your own hero to fight against the enemy. Depending on the one you choose and its perks, this hero can be weak in attack with high health, or small with bad vision and much more things you can think of.
The optimization was clearly perfect. Even though I found a very little bug when jumping on the edge of a surface where the player moves like crazy, that rarely happens so I won't be judging optimization by that. All other stuff was insanely perfect and you had so much things to do and upgrade you can't even imagine. One thing I noticed during the game, is that some places had small holes to go through so if you are tiny you can actually pass through them.
There are a lot of enemies to fight and bosses are the toughest ones. Once you defeat one of them, you won't be fighting him again. During the game, if you die, it is a good practice to use the architect ability so he will stuck the current castle map. If you don't use his ability, you will be able to start the game again, but the castle will be totally different from the first one! By the way, using the architect's ability, will make you earn 70% of the coins you will gather and things won't repeat themselves if you are talking about chests or rare occasions like the balloon guy. He won't accept you to play more than once.
When it comes to graphics though, the game is not a big deal to tell the truth. I didn't like the graphics sprites even though at 1080p (full high definition). The game is a looser here and it seems quite obvious, but I won't get desperate about it, because the creative idea of making such monsters look so cool will actually greatly help the game. I would recommend its developers to go on making such games because the game really rocks.
Overall the game is amazing and I personally really enjoyed it. Depending on you though, if you only like games with cool graphics and 3D, this game won't be your choice. Until next time!
