How we rate the games?
Restaurant Empire 2 is a strategy game based on the restaurant idea. It is quite complex, but very easy to understand and fun to play. I have played this game a year ago and really enjoyed it, especially the graphics. It remember me of some old PlayStation games, only because of the graphics and the game logic. Even though it didn't success quite big, it still is a good game to play with.
The gameplay is actually all about strategy. You have different ways to play, like sandbox, or choose between coffee and kitchen in the main campaign. The game has quite a lot of good strategy and sometimes it feels like a very good interpretation of The Sims game, even though it is more difficult to understand. This doesn't make the game boring, but contrary, it adds to its cards much more ways of added functions. You start the game from the campaign making a very good explained tutorial on how to play the game. You can than proceed with buying better stuff, going to other cities, hiring better professional staff for your restaurant and even more! There are actually some moments where even the costumers will offer you interesting stuff, for a good deal. You will have your own kitchen meals, which vary across countries and would make your costumers happy or angry. At first you won't make a big deal, but later in the game, you can even go to competition and become the most renown chief of all the city, winning a new meal rated a lot more than standard meals. This will make you get more costumers and have better quality, pricier meals.
The graphics of this game are nothing compared to new games, but they have their own special effect which immerses the player into this game. During the game, you can see that textures and high details are added onto the game. You can decorate the restaurant and the stuff is actually added when you buy it from the external of it. One thing I really liked was the map and the restaurant detail with so many stuff to choose from and buy. If you like games like The Sims with a lot of stuff, this game is exactly for you, but remember that it is somewhat more difficult to understand. The user interface was very good, but still, they could do much better.
The optimization is good, but not great. When you opt for high speed, your computer starts slowing down, which actually means that this game does not use more than one core. This is also known as single-threaded gameplay, which is quite terrible, but I guess that for that time, this game was the maximum they could handle. There is much more room for improvement and it could come out a real Sims game from it. The game has some bad optimization, but its mechanics are nearly perfect, I didn't find any bugs during the whole gameplay. There is much more to add to optimization, but watching the game might give you a better idea.
Sound in the game is not really good, with the exception when you achieve stuff, which is really nice as a sound in the game. It feels like the game lacks some stuff and it wasn't finished on its deadline, but there is someone who reads through all the tutorial and has a very nice and understandable voice. I personally really liked the tutorial and had fun listening to it.
Overall this game is a must, even though it is old. This is from my point of view, so if you like First Person Shooter games, you might dislike it, so don't buy it before watching it. Have fun!
