How we rate the games?
Resident Evil 6 is the extension of Resident Evil 4. The jump from 4 to 6 might make you think about the fifth and what happened with that. I have already made a review and it was probably the worst Resident Evil game ever made. It looks like a lot of game companies are tying to put out to the market bad games and are more on quantity rather than on quality. This is the best time to read reviews as this is the highest point of recession on video game market.
First of, I would say thank you to the developers team for this game. It is maybe the only game that had a lot of previous gameplay from the original series and had same stuff made in a better way. Even though it might feel like a copy paste of the game engine, there was a lot to be added into its cards. Even though it seems so the same with the other one, this Resident Evil game was by far, the only game that made me happy to play and seriously this game should be yours without any exception.
If you have previously played other Resident Evil games, without mentioning the fifth, this is the moment to get your hands on a great gameplay, story and horror. I don't want to sound like I am publishing something for sale, but sincerely I truly liked the game. It had horror, but made me play for a lot of time without even realizing the time I was recording it. What immediately attracted my attention, was the user interface. It was maybe the best I have ever seen and even if the idea sounded like it was taken from Dead Space, because it uses the exact same transparent screen, it had much better effects. At first though, it didn't attract me a lot. It was just a girl, helicopter and a single zombie. The game has some introductory tutorial and this is good for those who have never played the game before. I felt really amazed when I first opened the options screen, which is like a transparent surface and even the items screen was like that.
The user interface, especially in the welcome screen had a good effect when moving from one option to another. Even the number six, had a good idea and its cinematic of a giant spider. It gave the exact same feeling of the previous, real Resident Evil series, where you felt the horror, but wanted to go on and on without stopping and trying to kill as much enemies possible. Another thing I really liked, were the animations only because they happened real good at specific places. Two are the parts that were planted in my imagination, the first was the selection screen of the characters and the second was the still-life effect on the track. (The second is actually one of the photos) There could be more animations as I didn't beat the game.
The gameplay was as it should be, earning stuff when killing enemies, like skill points. The 3D movements of items were exceptional because they gave a feeling of good old days, but unfortunately they happen only when you grab a new item. (Unless I am mistaken here!) You can use the skill points to unlock better powers for your character, like more gunfire power or larger magazine. You could use a lot of weapons, or even a knife and kicks in case you are out of ammo. At the end of each level you get your grade and how good you performed. You can get the exact same medical herbs and combine them in the items screen. Even though I liked the items screen, I didn't like the idea that the game didn't stop while you were at it and zombies can still eat you.
An additional feature of the game, with great importance was the multiplayer. Because we nearly always make single player reviews, I choose to go with the artificial intelligence and play with the computer. This is a good place to show how good this game is optimized. With some exceptions to add, the overall actions the other player had during the gameplay were exactly as needed. Depending with which character you are playing you might have different people helping you out during the game. I hated when you had to wait for your other character to come and help you when you tried to open doors or other actions, depending on the situation. This has nothing to do with the beating of the game, since you could wait for your other partner. I don't know exactly what could happen in a situation when you are playing with another guy in real life who doesn't want to move on with the game and ruin it.
The skill points where actually interesting. They are thrown down by the enemies when they die and depending on the enemy you are trying to kill, they will leave better or worse points. The points are accumulated at the end of a specified chapter, but you can also use them in the game screen. The more points you have, the better rewards you can unlock. Bear in mind that you can unlock rewards, but depending on what level they are, they will need more points. You will also get dogtags, but I didn't dig in for that. The skill points are just like chess pieces, like the knight, queen and so on. The better points you get, the more powerful that piece of chess in the game is. There are also some secrets, like a blue place which has to be shoot in order to get the secret content for the game.
There is a lot to learn from the story, but it all comes down to which play you are choosing. The idea of adding mercenaries mode in the game, is amazing. The only thing you have to do before you play this mode, is completing every single campaign with all four characters. There are a lot of interesting parts, like killing the president because he was already a zombie and you can't actually choose any character when you start the game, since you have to pass the tutorial part of the game. There are a lot of difficulties which will keep you busy by completing the game with more difficult zombies and less equipment. There is also the Umbrella corporation, but you won't be hearing anything from that after some time. What they say is that a kind of plant is spitting to the people and they are actually becoming zombies, which is what you could hear from the special agent which was trying to help you.
When I was playing the game, I notices some places which couldn't be walked to and was clearly a bad sign for the game optimization. They could have added some kind of handles or something which didn't let you to go through, but just plain street which didn't let you to move to. I don't know if that is a good thing to do in a game, since it should have been very easy to block these parts and the player would actually understand this. Anyway, overall was very good, but it was still the same game engine with some tweaks. I cannot say that this is actually a bad thing, but it didn't have anything to do with overall gameplay of the game again. I didn't notice any other bad parts from the game and graphics ran amazingly fluent even on highest options possible.
We now start talking about the graphics themselves. I don't know what kept them from upgrading the graphics of the game, but it was clear that using the same game engine would bring them the same gameplay. The tweaks are obvious, which actually was the maximum output they could put into the game. There was a lot of stuff to be added too, but as we are getting more used to games, with cool graphics and other amazing stuff, they won't turn out as good as we thought. This was exactly what this game tried to be, same game as its predecessors and have somewhat good graphics with the same engine. It is a wise movement and trickier one, because the developers didn't even try to create the game from ground, but had it already. Sounds great right?
Looks like the game publishers want as many games as possible since there is a great recession in gaming market, but I don't know if this strategy will actually work. This game though has its own good stuff and I really liked it. I personally am enjoying this review and it was time a review was so long. Normally the longer the review the more I enjoyed the game! Talking about the visual effects of the game, they were cool, but I have to add that the textures had nothing to do with high-resolution and some of the old stuff was quite obvious. Since the publishers tried to have the game as fast as possible, I don't know what this technique will finally do, but it is hurting a lot of games out there and they all seem corrupted.
Overall, the game was amazing and had a lot of great stuff and same good engine. At least we can hope that the game was fun and had nothing to do with the predecessor Resident Evil Racoon City. We have already made a review for that game and it sucked a lot. I leave you to decide of this game was right for you or not, but I really hope that this game will be as fun as it was for me!
