How we rate the games?
Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning is a third person shooting game. It is very much based as a mix of games such as Dragon Age 2, Borderlands, Skyrim and Fable. There might be more games in the mixture, but basically if you have played any of these games, Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning will certainly remind you one of them. The game might not have great graphics, but it has very good surroundings, lightning and detailed enemies.
If you want to list some of the features the game packs, I would mention lock picking, magic, power-ups, fate cards, blacksmith, sneaking and much more! All of them have their own power-ups and you will always benefit from each one. The better you sneak, the easier you will kill your enemies. You can use blacksmith to make and repair better weapons and you will have a better chance having a more powerful weapon. The idea is clear, you will power-up to defeat even more powerful enemies, which will also level-up the more you will discover during your journey.
Weapons are of different types and power-ups. Firstly, I will discuss for the bow, sword and daggers. You will also have the chance to use other weapons types, but that is your choice of buying the game or not, since this is just a review which won't unveil everything. The bow can be used as a primary or secondary weapon and you can easily switch from one weapon to another by pressing Q or moving the mouse wheel. You can get 2 bows as a primary and secondary weapon, so don't think that the same choice will affect the chosen weapon. The bow can be used to kill enemies in high latitude or other places where you can't reach. You can attack enemies from the distance too, if you don't want to draw too much attention. There are many different bows, with many attributes, but you would like to get the one which will affect your armor or other stuff you have, instead of having one which won't affect anything.
The same goes for the sword and daggers, which will have their own attributes, like regeneration of mana, life, more life points or mana, better experience, powerful critical shots or others. You can use daggers to sneak near your enemies and attack them, for instant kills, but this depends if you are attacking a powerful enemy and are skilled enough to make tremendous critical damage. The more you will progress, the more attacks you will unlock, so stay sure that each path has its own strength. The sword is nearly the same as daggers, but is slower, cannot make sneak attacks for instant kills and it is more powerful since you have only one wielding. You can use a shield though, which will help you when an enemy attacks and save your life. There are also two-handed weapons, which are the most powerful and the slowest you will encounter.
Magic is one of the best things the game has. You will soon realize that you can become a great wizard by using all kind of magic, even healing magic. Wizardry has its own strengths and weakness, so don't expect that it will be used to win all the game. When you are against a boss, sometimes magic won't work since they might have strong abilities and armor. To become a true wizard, you will have to unlock all wizardry stuff, wear the wizard armor and accumulate a lot of mana as quick as possible. This can be achieved depending on the weapon and the armor you are wearing which will greatly help you during your journey. You will find staffs during the game, which can be used as wizard staffs to attack enemies in distance with powerful shots. Depending on the staff you are wearing, they can do fire, ice or other affinities, but you might choose the one you prefer if you find them all.
Talking about armors, the game has a lot of them. You might be surprised that the game has a lot of armors, which can be used to protect hands, foot, head, body, but there are also rings that affect your gameplay. The game has armors for each level and you might find rare armors and weapons too, depending on the level and color you find. For example, having purple armor is rare, but the green armor is usual. They are separated by colors which you will understand as soon as you start collecting them. You can sell the ones that you don't like or don't want any more, using the money for later.
You can quickly level up if you find someone who will train you for a certain sum, but that is really worth it, since you will benefit during all the game. The more skilled you are at a specific attribute, the better you will become and more things you would find during the game. Some secrets cannot be found by the untrained eye, but if you train a lot, you will find a lot of secrets immediately. Leveling up, also means choosing your fate, since you will have to become someone after all! You can choose to use daggers and become skilled at sneaking, which just means that you will become a good rogue. The more skills you unlock in the rogue, the more fate cards you will unlock and you will benefit from them a lot, since the most powerful attributes are unlocked by the fate cards. You can even choose a mixture of them, by unlocking some of the dagger skills and some for the sword, or magic. The more you mixture, the less are the attributes you will benefit, but they are split up between each other.
The game has some ingredients which can be taken from plants and be used to supply your inventory with vials, like healing potions or raising manas. There are also benefits for a duration of time, like having more speed or finding more stuff. The game itself, also has a very special attack, which slows everyone down and lets you attack them for a limited amount of time. In the end, you can choose to kill the last one, by using a finish shot which can be done by pressing several times space, right or left mouse button. That would come as a surprise, since you don't know which button will come up and you will have to be fast, so the experience you will earn, will be doubled if you get 100% of attack.
