How we rate the games?
Prototype 2 is a third person shooter game. You basically become a mutant and want to get revenge to those people who did bad stuff to you. You start by making alliances with other people and try to absorb others to get their memories. Like this, you will become stronger and know everyone who did you bad stuff. With the passing of time, you will gain new abilities and become tougher.
The graphics of this game are very good, but not perfect. There are a lot of visual effects, not so bad textures, good 3D models and nice animations. To tell the truth animations were somewhat weird depending on circumstances, especially when you absorb bodies. The player absorbed becomes blood and is inserted into your body, which is somewhat horrendous. It might also have moments of blood and gore, but it doesn't distract the player from playing the actual game.
Talking about the gameplay, it was fun. I enjoyed it and it is really weird because when I played this months ago, it didn't give any great impact. It felt like spiderman with some 3rd person shooter combination. I really liked the running on the buildings which allowed the player to feel the true power of these mutations. Later on you can get claws and become even more powerful, get the body of other people, defeat bosses in battle, use your senses to find your targets and much more. The enemies were also somewhat difficult, but you can switch the difficulty since the start of the game. There were three difficulties and you will enjoy every single piece of it. There are different missions, where you have to kill or absorb someone, defeat a boss or find keys. Around the city you will also have possibility to get mutations which will help you later on. The player can fly from one building to another, can fall without any damage, get killed but you can absorb other people to gain health, get faster by unlocking certain abilties, levelling up and camouflaged. When camouflaged you won't get discovered by enemies, so it will certainly help you out. There are tanks, helicopters, humans, androids, mutants and a lot more beings. Since the start of the game you will get a giant at your back and in case you don't run, death is guaranteed! To tell the truth, the part which I enjoyed most was levitating from one building to another and running on buildings. This is the same gameplay as Spider Man though, but you will certainly enjoy it if you enjoyed Spider Man games.
Optimization is where this game is good at. It had very good enemy AI, good loading speed, textures loaded with the player, the game ran fluenly even at high graphics settings and I didn't see any bad stuff. One of the most interesting thing was that the player could also get weapons, like a bazooka to destroy tanks and the keys responded very good. There are times though that the keys won't act naturally and that is of course not the fault of the player. The game itself is set in a city where you can run where you want, unless you are going for a mission. This is an additional feature to the game which makes it feel great while playing.
The idea is not new and as I mentioned before it has to do with Spider Man gameplay. Prototype 2 is also nearly identical to its previous game. The real problem is not the gameplay but it is just another desperate combination of other games and the lack of idea from the developers part. This is somewhat boring and benefital to the gaming industry since it will only raise their sales and make more money to create somewhat equal games which happen to be nearly identical to each other. This is quite normal nowadays though as we have already seen other games which are just combinations of each other, turning into a major one. The free-world is certainly taken from somewhere else, running, jumping, mutation, levelling up and a lot more stuff which is just a copy paste of other copy pastes!
Overall the game was fun to play, but brings no big deal into innovation. The idea was clear and it is nearly identical to the previous Prototype game. I was hoping for some big differences though and not the same game over and over again.
