How we rate the games?
Miasmata is a game based on the surviving idea. The game starts in an unknown island where you have to survive, even though you don't know where you are. You will experience a lot of real life stuff, like chemical experiments which was a very cool thing to add in a game. You will become ill, so you will need a lot of medical skills to get back to sane, even though you will need to gather a lot of flowers and experiment with them first. You can even get water and drink if you become dehydratated, which will make you die much faster if you are seriously ill with an unknown illness.
The game graphics are not good, so you can't expect anything, except the lightning from the trees. The textures of the map and your journal, are good enough to read and find your location, so you won't have problems with that. There is a day and night system, but you might get lost during night, since there is nothing you can see. You will have to sleep in a bed, but you will need to find it before the sun goes down. If you start swimming, you will soon become sick, because you are not strong enough, but I think they did this because they don't want you to start swimming immediately from the start of the game.
You won't find any weapons, just fruits you can shoot, which is really funny and stupid in the same time. I didn't like the hands because they where like cut and its movements where really weird, especially when swimming fast. You can also sprint in the game which is important since there is a whole map and you would have to walk a lot before going to a place. After some time of sprinting, you will become exhausted since you won't have enough strength, but you will develop strength and other abilities after some time in the game. You can save your game using a lamp in some houses, but you can save it during sleep too. After you wake up, you might find yourself at night, which is very disturbing, since you won't be able to find anything because of the dark.
The cartography in the game is very important, since you will have to use it to orient yourself in the map. Whenever you find new stuff, everything will be placed in the journal, where you will be able to find everything you found back. The map will be the place where you will find directions if you get lost, which is a normal thing in the game. You can right-click to use your compass and watch the time, in case you will have to save your game before it gets too late. You can find out what hour it is, because of AM and PM placed on your clock.
Playing the game might become boring though, especially when you don't understand what to do, because you will have to read all things you find out. The problem is that you will be wasting a lot of time reading what you will have to do, especially cartography which was quite boring if you ask me. The game might get repetitive, because there are not a lot of stuff placed in the island, just the stuff I already wrote before, which are not enough to make a complete game, even though this game sounds more like indie game.
Overall the game is not that good as expected, but the gameplay is good for people who like a little strategy and mixing up things together to make medicines. People who like biology and chemistry will find this game very good, meanwhile who love graphics will find this game irritating, so it is just a personal choice.
