How we rate the games?
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is the latest addition to Metal Gear series. This game is very different from the original game and it resembles more to Devil May Cry. It is a very cool game and to some extend it seems a great change. From numerous attacks, firearms, styles to interesting equipment make this game the best game for the moment. There are some downsides though, but as always we will surely enjoy the game if it is fun to play.
Rising Revengeance gameplay is about quick and hard attacks, mainly. You can choose with what to attack and always bear in mind that quick attacks are fast but deal less damage than hard attacks. The character you will play with is known as Raiden, a very detailed 3D model. Raiden is a cyborg who has incredible speed and compares to other powerful cyborgs who are going to be his enemies. There are special attacks that the player performs when the enemy is near to death and you can consume his left hand for more money, health and blade mode regeneration. While performing this kind of attack, the gameplay slows down and you can start attacking and slicing the enemy into houndreds of pieces. It is blood and gore since you will see a lot of blood spreading around when slicing the enemy.
The interesting thing here is that you won't only control Raiden, but also other cyborgs in the long run. You can perform automatic jump when in front of stuff which blocks your way through, but holding control button on windows. The controls were also very intuitive and there is a tutorial before starting the game so you can learn how to play. As a matter of fact, playing the game will be easy if you know the controls and this is very important, especially on higher level of difficulty. When starting a new game, you can choose between easy, normal and hard. The difficulty level cannot be changed once starting a new game. A lot of old stuff, like killing enemies without catching any attention, are all in the game plus the new additional moves, characters and more.
Graphics were very good, with the exception of the textures which seemed a lot like Resident Evil 4 quality. On top of this, the moves seem a lot like Devil May Cry and it just seems a very nice and cool mixtures between these games. Since lately developers are striving to keep up by combining existing code to create a new game, we can clearly tell that this game was the best combination of all. The idea of the game seems really threalling too, showing how cyborgs don't know about feelings, but they can understand it once they are told about it. Raiden also transforms into a more powerful being, making the story and gameplay more interesting.
Optimization is what this game lacks the most. During the gameplay, especially at the first boss, the camera moved really weird and the game music stopped without any reason, other than a bug. The controls, even though very intuitive, had to be learned before play. For example, pressing Z button makes Raider attack and jump back, hitting the enemy while attacking. When completing every stage of levels, you could earn BP to buy new equipments and it really depends how well you performed. There is also a ranking, so you know how well you did. From - to S, the rankings are the definition of better equipments and upgrades. - means that you didn't even play that stage and S means that you performed excellent without getting a single hit. Killing enemies stealthily, not only helps you getting a better rank, but also you will defeat the enemies immediately, without bothering you. When defeating enemies they will drop some BP, if killed stealthily, or sub weapons which can be used to defeat other enemies. In rare cases you will find left hands to collect, allowing you to unlock new upgrades to be bought from the costumization screen.
There are a lot of enemies to fight with such as soldiers, vehicles, giant cyborgs, robots, dogs, strange handy stuff, helicopters, tanks, bosses and much more. Raiden can identify enemies by activating a thermic vision pressing 1 button. It is also very helpful when it is complete darkness, especially during a specific mission. By knowing this stuff, the game should be much easier and fun to play. When an enemy, especially weak ones, is in difficulty, you can perform Zandatsu by pressing shift and cutting him to pieces. If you can cut through the red square, which will be designated in the screen, you can then press F and gain more BP, health regeneration and FC, known as blade mode. If the FC bar is red, you cannot slow down the gameplay or even cut the enemy, but if it is blue, you will be shown the red square to cut through it and gain more.
All in all, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is a masterpiece and we really recommend this game in case you absolutely loved Devil May Cry. Note to all other gamers, that this game is a must! See you next time and don't forget to leave a comment.
