How we rate the games?
Lords of football is a strategy game based on the sport of football, or soccer as known in America. I personally hate football and when I saw this game I thought that it was going to be like the football manager games, which was terrible. Looks like it isn't like that, but more similar to The Sims! This game actually has a lot in common and I think that the same developers created this game, which is an instant hit.
The gameplay was very interesting, but it also had its ups and downs. For example, you had to train your players and always grab them, throwing them into places, just like in the Black and White game. You had to do the same thing, again and again making it tremendously repetitive and didn't make you feel good. One thing I clearly enjoyed was watching the players train and eventually become better at the specialized stuff. They all had their own preferences, like building up muscles, passing, throwing the ball, becoming more charismatic and much more. There was also some other stuff, like being drunk, going out with ladies, but too much of this and the players will get a bad reputation. There was a whole city to discover, you could build new places for your players to train for different stuff, unlock new possibilities and much more. When it comes to playing, you might get bored watching your team while they play and you see them how they actually play, so instead of watching them, you can simulate the match to get an instant result. Depending on how good is your team trained, how many stars your team had when you started the league and on many other factors, your team will have better or less chances to win. When you start your career, you will eventually customize your team, before you start the game. The customization was very detailed, you could change your players and even your team logo. There are other interesting stuff in this game, which have never been possible on other games when it comes to the gameplay.
The graphics were pretty neat. I personally liked the cool effects, but nothing to be amazed of. You might want to set higher graphics settings depending on your graphics card. If you simulate the game from normal to fast, the game might not run fluently because a simulation like that, first of all requires a lot of optimization from the programmers part, but will also need a lot of graphics power to make the player movements and adding effects won't be easy with that pace. My computer, unfortunately didn't keep up well, but it did work though. The game itself has good graphics, where I especially liked the weather changes. There are a lot of other stuff which actually missed from this game and it seems like it was ported directly from The Sims 3. This is not a good thing to do, judging by the graphics, because you might have a DirectX 11 card and not use its full potential, thus making the game run slower than normal. The user interface was somewhat interesting, with some cool effects, but as always, when it comes to football, it is nearly the same idea.
Optimization was probably the worst part of this game. It felt somewhat like SimCity for various reasons. The graphics optimization was clearly ported, the gaming speed, which crippled the frame rates of the game and other stuff which was somewhat terrible. This part is maybe one of the most important things in a game, because you won't like a faulty game especially when talking to simulation, where you have to calculate immense amounts of stuff, including player movements, graphics, user interface changes, weather, new pop-up screens which appear randomly and much more. I felt really disappointed and this made me want to uninstall the game. This has also been a plague for The Sims series, where if you had a lot of stuff included in the game, especially when you had giant buildings, your game will drop the frame rate at which it is being played to nearly zero.
When you think about the idea, it is clearly unique. Trying to combine games with each other and create a single game is actually the point what game programmers are ultimately struggling to do. If others didn't think about it and didn't make a game like this, than this is the only video game where you will have a soccer strategy game, where players and stuff happens just like in The Sims 3. You might feel bad by numerous factors, especially optimization, where most of SimCity players left the game. Servers, while playing online, might also be another bad thing about games like this, so it is actually something like SimCity, but not that bad.
When talking about the sounds, it feels like playing The Sims, but with a football theme. It might not be awesome, but might have some good points for the player.
Overall, don't buy this game if you get nervous while playing, unless you have a powerful computer, waiting to run this game. It had very bad optimization, so stay alert. Those kind of games require a lot of attention when it comes to simulation and adding speed and I personally think, this is why they included only two speed buttons and not three. Anyway, have fun playing!
