How we rate the games?
Hoard is a fun game, where you play as a dragon all the time. You might enjoy it, especially when you play on multiplayer with your friends. I personally enjoyed the game, it was very good as gameplay. There were not a lot of options though, in both campaign and in the settings menu, which leaves a lot to be desired. Don't get discouraged though, because we have not started with the review yet!
The gameplay of Hoard was very interesting. You have your own treasure at first and have to accumulate more money than the other dragons. Being a dragon, you can inflame cities, steal money, attack other dragons or even steal the princess! Every time you play the game, there might be different circumstances, so it won't always be the same game, which is a good point. Another thing to mention, which was very fun and interesting, were the upgrade points you gather at a certain amount of treasure gathered. You have four types of upgrades: The dragon is the speed, the flame which is the fire you breath, treasure meaning that you will have more treasure to accumulate before getting back at your base and finally the armor which is the defense your dragon has against attacks. Bear in mind that every time your dragon can get full of treasure and has to go back to the base to leave the treasure there, otherwise others will attack you and all the treasure you collected is gone! Another thing to mention, is the princess and the wizard's gems. The princess will give you points as long as she is inside your base. On the other hand, the wizard's gems are part of powerful towers, which if destroyed, will drop a wizard gem. While carrying the gem, you will also drop all your current treasure, leaving you without anything but the gem, and you have to get back to your base to leave the gem there. Your dragon will also become instantly slower and very vulnerable to attacks from your enemies. There is also a score multiplier, which will help you get a higher score for the same amount of treasure. You can get up to x3 multiplier which is essentially three times more treasure for you! When the multipliers are on, you will also get multiple bonuses for both the princess and the wizard gem.
When attacking other cities, they might become your servants and will send you caravans with treasure every now and then. Your dragon also has health points, which might go to 0 and you have to loose your treasure and get back to your base to regenerate your health. After you are totally generated, you can now move where you won't, so bear in mind that loosing all your health automatically moves you to your base and won't let you move until you are fully regenerated. When attacking wizard towers, they might upgrade over time and will attack you with more powerful weapons. Your dragon will also loose health points if hit by those attacks. Bear in mind that, the cities which are your servants, won't attack you and will have your flag on each of their units. You can use them to defend against other enemies.
The graphics are somewhat different and not like all other games. It felt somewhat like World of Warcraft graphics because of the terrain, light and snow. There might be similarities like other games, but the idea was somewhat unique and really fun. After enjoying this game, I tried other maps and there was a description for each map and how many dragon will there be. There was not a big deal of gpu consuming no matter what kind of map you tried or how big it was.
The optimization was kind of good, but compared to other huge games, I would not really consider it as great job. You only had 3 options when it came to changing the map tiles to standard, snow or night, which was somewhat boring with just these options. The random is not a big deal, just the same stuff with randomized probability for changes to the map. I was somewhat feeling bad that this game didn't have a lot of customization, leaving again a lot to desire from such a good idea. What I didn't like too, was the AI of the enemies. They felt very dull and it felt like they didn't have any idea why there where in there, playing the game, which was in the same time funny. They were not really aggressive meaning that if you had more life they wouldn't attack you and even worse, if you had more abilities, when the game might simply end. If you ask me, the AI was truly faulty, but it at least moved and made the basic stuff.
The sound was ok, but it might become irritating, especially the music at the start screen.
Overall, the game was interesting and I would recommend to give it a go if you like such games. See you next time and don't forget to comment below!
