How we rate the games?
Grid 2 is a fantastic racing game. I say this because of the graphics and the reality that this game emerges the player playing it. On my computer it ran perfectly fine and I didn't notice any FPS drops using the 6770HD. It might become repetitive though, but this is the same as most racing games have the same thing, moving the car! Anyway, I have to say that Dirt 3 was somewhat better when it comes to user interface, but this one was better to graphics and visual effects.
The gameplay was somewhat boring because you just had to drive and even in the same stages occasionally. There are different modes of racing though and I really liked the idea of winning the car challenge so you could unlock the car you were racing with. There are also racing modes where you have to finish the line first against 7 other opponents, or one by one stages where you have to win like 3 times consecutively in order to win the first place.
One boring thing is that you just drive all the time, without any interesting new stuff, like running away from the police, or being the cop yourself. There are also some other things which become tremendously repetitive. You have to drive 3 times occasionally depending on the event. I enjoyed it a lot though and the environments where very good.
Optimization is maybe one other interesting thing of this game. Unfortunately, just creating different artificial intelligence for the cars and making the car move is not a big deal, not because it is easy job, but we have all seen in racing games that it is the same idea with all the cars. I have to say that when it comes to graphics optimization, the game is a true winner. I have never seen such good FPS rates in a lot of times and most importantly it uses DirectX 11. Admittedly, this is the most realistic racing game ever released.
The idea is not new, we all know racing games and what is even worse, I didn't see anything new when it comes to being creative with gameplay. Even the graphics, are not new because there are other games which have somewhat the same visual effects as this one. All in all, it depends if you really like serious driving. I remember old games where they had a lot of other stuff like collecting things, running away from the cops, bomb modes, destruction modes and other amazing stuff, which of those new games are clearly missing. In terms of realism, it is not an idea, because putting the reality exactly as it is in the computer is not a big deal, because it is already pre-made for you.
Overall, the game deserves a lot of points, but it clearly lacked something new to gameplay. It felt repetitive and only 3 modes which make the game become boring. It is quite clear that this is a commercial game. In Dirt 3 though, there were other interesting modes and the design with triangles was amazing. I am mentioning Dirt 3 because this game is made by the same developers. Finally, the choice is yours. If you like graphics and driving, this game is for you.
