How we rate the games?
Dragon Age Origins is a very interesting game and we had to make a review for this game. Considered to have one of the best and most amazing story ever told, it depicts real life events which have happened, even though we are talking here about fantasy creatures. Using magic, swords, daggers, shields and much more, you will be adventuring unknown locations never seen before. The evil will always be there, waiting for you, but you will find the courage to win the battles.
Alright, this stuff is well-known in a lot of games. I would mention two games which I have already played and have somewhat same stories, Fable and Skyrim. Of course I am talking here about two games I know, so there must be a lot more games which use the same idea and its really fun. Depending on what creature you choose at the beginning of the game, you will find a lot of different stories which have not a lot to do with each other.
If you saw the video or played the game yourself, you will find out that the story was quite dramatic. That is one of the best characteristics of this game. You can even play in two different viewpoints, but I preferred mostly third person shooter for combat situations. It is entirely up to you to choose.
When you start the game, you will find out that there is a lot in common with RPG games, playing with parties (there is not only one character playing, but more can join during the entire game, like Alistair). The game is tremendously huge and you will need a lot of time before you beat it, just like Skyrim, but that one is a first person shooter.
The gameplay is a lot about weapons, magic and completing quests. You can level up, unlock new abilities, buy weapons, items or even sell them. During your quests, you will also need a lot of friends because it will be impossible to complete it without any help. You will also need a mage to heal you during the quests, because that will be tremendously important. Bear this in mind as the key to complete the whole game, but the more powerful the friends you have in your party.
You can even find yourself into weird situations where you have to kill one of your friends. Compared to Skyrim though, this game has a lot of bad stuff, but I don't want to go into details about that, just bear in mind that this game lacks some stuff. It has its own unique gameplay and good points too, which Skyrim doesn't have. Even though the name of the game is Dragon Age, you barely fight any dragons into the game. There are only a few and the most powerful one at the end of the game.
Going into details, the good part of the game is the combat mode and especially when you find new items, level up and build a better, more powerful character, so you know if you will beat the next time the enemies. You can actually know if you are attacking a powerful Arch demon or just a boring enemy by the color of its name. You can actually complete the game without going into any secondary objectives, but always remember that you will loose a lot of interesting stuff and especially legendary weapons or armor.
You have your character and inventory screen, where you can drag and drop items dynamically and watch your character change its look, which is very cool. Bleeding is exaggerated, because when you look at your character after fights you will see that his face is entirely covered by blood which is funny and stupid in the same time. You can remove it in the options screen, but as far as the game went, I saw it completely stupid, without any effort to minimize or do a better job with that.
The graphics are quite good, especially the environments and textures. I was pleased to see such high quality textures, which makes you to look at your character more and gives you a feel of having higher detail. This is not only about characters, but even environments. I didn't like the models though, especially the sculpting process. The characters and objects lacked a lot of good polygons and sometimes they might have a ridiculous posture.
You won't be needing a high end graphics card for this game and I ran the game very fluently even with my old Nvidia 7600GS and a sempron 3100+. Running it now, felt a lot better though, so the better your specs are, the better the game will play. Loading screens will depend especially on your processor and how good it performs. Since this is not a new game, you can play it without any problem, unless you have a very old computer.
Optimization is not always good, since the game mechanics are somewhat bad. Your characters moves in a typical direction, or sometimes you can't actually click the doors. Those are bad stuff because of bad pixel detection optimization. They should have payed more attention to this. I personally liked though, the idea of adding tactics to your players when you pause the screen, or adding typical conditions when you have low health and one of your friends will heal you. This is just an example, because there can be different conditions depending on the character.
The sound in the game is somewhat good, somewhat bad. I liked the music, but didn't like some weird sounds when you were moving or demons stuff. There could happen to make a magic and to completely not hear it, which is totally ridiculous.
Overall the game has its good and its bad, but compared to other games like Skyrim, it fails giving the same entertainment. It is up to you to choose if the game is for you or not. See you next time!
