How we rate the games?
Cubemen is an indie game. The idea is somewhat taken from Minecraft and it has become quite popularized by game developers, but if you ask me about this game, it had its good parts too. This is a tower based game, where you buy better players with better equipment, but this time you will have cubemen fight for you.
The game was somewhat interesting, but had some stuff which were quite boring, especially the game speed. It is a personal taste though, so you might like it like that. There are different levels and actually you can create your own level or rate levels so next time people will know about it. All levels have various difficulty settings so you will understand if you can complete it or not, based on your experience and knowledge skill. There is a lot to learn from this game, since those kind of games have secret tricks and learning keyboard shortcuts is a must for hardcore players. I was somewhat intrigued though at the difficulty levels as I only completed a single level, but that was my first run on this game.
You can buy new cubemen and put them to fight for you wherever you want, unless the blocks are already used by another cubemen. I liked the way those cube soldiers moved around the map to reach the specified destination and it was that which made this game somewhat unique. There is also the graphics which is very bad, but gives an idea that this game was made like that on purpose. You will be defeated if the enemy players reach your flag, or win if you defeat every wave of enemies. Depending on the mode you are playing though, the game will have various different rules, so it is not only about defeating enemy waves.
The graphics leave a lot to desire and I was not happy with that. They could have added a better lightning (maybe SSAO?) to make the cubemen look somewhat better, or at least a background to look more realistic, not just plain blank with the stage in the middle. I liked the idea of looking at different angles, since a lot of games, like the newly remake of Age of Empires II HD which doesn't have any 3D at all. There is not much to talk about, only that its developers should have worked more on that. From what I know, Cubemen 2 is a far better game with more stuff added and will make a review as soon as it gets on my hands! For now though, we can simple talk about this game, which has its bad or good aspects.
Optimization wasn't exactly as expected, but at least you could play without any issues. I didn't like how fast your players could die and other stuff which was clear that the programmers didn't really think about. The graphics optimization was very good, simply because there were no great graphics at all. I understand the work developers put in this game, but unfortunately it doesn't mean that you should get this game, especially because there are a lot of other games out there which are much worthy. This game might be great fun when you play with your friends or on multiplayer, so you know that there is actually a human playing on the other side. Despite being unique, this game clearly needs more work and I was be very interested to review the next cubemen coming.
The idea is interesting, but not original. As I said in the beginning, it originates from Minecraft by making cube graphics and it is quite obvious. On the other hand, its tower based, so the game has a lot to give in video gaming market. When it comes to playing, I like the game modes and the idea of customization. Adding different players, gaining points and upgrading your cubemen were interesting.
The sound was ok, not good or bad. I didn't notice anything legendary or boring so please share you own ideas.
Overall, you should get the new version of cubemen, or if you liked the second and wanna have a try with the first one, it is just a downgrade to a lot of aspects. Please comment below and don't forget to visit us everyday for new game reviews!
