How we rate the games?
Castlevania Lords of Shadow is another return for the Castlevania franchise. I had a lot since I played one Castlevania game in the PlayStation 1 (Symphony of the night) and the differences where obviously huge. From 2D to 3D though doesn't appeal to be a great bet for this kind of game, especially when trying to use other games functionality in a unique gameplay of the 2D title.
The gameplay wasn't a big of a deal and you could actually have more fun playing the old games. I was really bored while playing it, since all you did was just press buttons and the player will automatically do stuff for you. While it seemed like a combination of Devil May Cry because of the camera, attacks and blood and of Tomb Raider Legend, since you could grab and move around the ledges, the game really sucked like hell. It was easy too, you didn't have to use your brain in order to progress, because the main path will be highlighted.
The graphics and animations where awesome and especially the boss battles. This is where the game tried to hit the most, but it is quite clear that commercial games tend to show off firstly because of the graphics. The battles looked quite real and you could enjoy every single piece of it. Unfortunately, there wasn't alot to change in the options screen, where there should normally be a lot of options for you pleasure. I think that the game didn't require a lot of graphics power, but at least the better your GPU is, the better the result.
The optimization wasn't good. I was actually greatly disappointed by a lot of stuff. The weapon you have at first, was very long and you could hit your enemies really easily. You couldn't jump of some of the edges, meanwhile in some others you could, making a weird choice to say the truth. On top of that, you could beat all types of enemies with the same hits, making it a lazy job for the developers. The enemies were not much of choices and the interaction was very boring. One thing I have to mention though, is the experience points you gather throughout your missions which can unlock more special attacks.
The idea was the same as the other Castlevanias, with some changes in story. This was not a good game to play though, since it was just a combination of other games with each other. This makes this game to clearly score lower than other games in the idea score.
Overall the game was not good and I wouldn't recommend it. It is time to get back to the Symphony of the Night game, since that was legendary and made Castlevania survive to this date. See you next time!
