How we rate the games?
Bioshock 2 looks to me as a weird game. It is alright though, as sometimes weird games might impact for good. Since I am reviewing it, the game has some good notoriety among gamers. I have played even the first one and it was cool, because you could upgrade your player with new powers. The way you upgrade, is somewhat not normal, because you have to get little girls and use their power in order to upgrade. This is truly weird, but at least you got the idea now.
Playing the game and watching a bunch of psychopaths trying to attack you, might give the game somewhat a horror theme and at times it is, but it might even make you laugh by the way your enemies act. The logic behind the game is very easy, just kill and use your powers to open doors, block electricity, freeze and other stuff like that. You might not feel good with this game since it is a first person shooter, but you get the idea of what is going to happen in the game.
The gameplay is very linear, you get to kill people, get some hacking tools and what is maybe cool, is that you are inside a robots body since the beginning of the game. The city is underwater, but you are able to survive because you have your robot body. Even though the game has some weird stuff, the main idea is that you have to help little girls. Some say that Bioshock 1 was better than this one and I actually think that is right. The first one had more sense and passing from the first to the second didn't actually make any sense. I hope it is not me who is saying wrong words though!
The graphics are those from 2010, so there is nothing special at all, with the exception of some little water falling in your head. There is nothing really worth to talk about, since the technology used dates 3 years ago and it might even feel boring compared to other games. No matter how bad it might look, or good, the game deserved some notoriety for the time and it really gave a new feel in video gaming. The graphics optimization were good enough and I didn't see any real problems with it, no weird slowdowns even gaming at 1920x1080 resolution with a big screen.
Story is a good and awkward part of the game where you are actually inside the body of a robot and use your drill to kill your enemies while they run and jump to attack you. This really sounds crazy, but you have yet to see what happens during boss fights! I never played the game completely, but it was good enough to at least play and upgrade your robot body. I personally don't like those kind of games, especially weird parts where you have to kill a lot of people while they scream around and everybody who is near you hears them too. The game has unique idea though, this is where its best bet is, but the game itself is not really worth the time when you have better games to play.
The sound might be weird at times, scary, or whatever you might think of, but it is not really normal. I didn't like it especially where enemies attacked you and gave a bad feeling to everyone. If it was scary at least they would scare you, but not running toward you like psychopaths and you kill them. Beyond the basic sounds where a player makes, this game might have hilariousness in its sounds. Either way, I didn't like the game as a whole.
Overall the game is good for those who like first person shooting, but don't expect too much fun, since the pixel detection, weapons used and other stuff like adding new features to your player, might ruin your shooting abilities. Basically, if you like mixed games with some unique introduction to gameplay and story, this game is truly for you. If you ask my personal opinion, I don't really like it. I completed the first one and it was a bit more fun than this. No matter what I said, it is you to decide on this game, but you better wait for the new game known as Bioshock Infinite which will require a lot of power from your gpu. Good luck!
