How we rate the games?
Anodyne is an indie game and as such, we try to rate it higher than it would be really rated, only to help indie developers. I personally really liked the game and made me pass some cool time. You can't expect from this kind of game any graphics, but you can at least remember some old days, like Zelda's first publish.
The graphics would rate to a total 0, but we won't be that harsh with it. If you think you got any graphics requests, you won't be enjoying this game too much, but it will be worth trying it for once. The game itself needs a lot of attention to make it to the public and it is currently selling for as low as 1$. With that unbeatable price, I personally think that there is going to be a good sale for the game. That price point is really understandable and you can't really argue about it, because it is crazy low. What I terribly didn't like though, was the screen which had to be wider and had to use resolutions, which is very easy to program. I have done that on one of my projects and I don't understand why people who can make such games, will never use any resolutions and it really sucks.
The optimization is perfect, I didn't find any bugs, but you would always find any very tiny bug none would even ever see after beating the game. I really liked it because there was no real problem with bugs. When it comes to AI, it might be somewhat irritating since you might loose your life too much times, making it nearly unplayable at certain points because of difficulty it had.
The story is about a legendary guy and he was actually a sweeper. This might sound ridiculous, but well you get the funny idea. During the game you will find a lot of hidden places, earn cards which are required to open some secret areas and other stuff like the portals of time which will help you get back to where you started. There are also other weapons, enemies and friends who will come after your back to help you in your quest. Also, never forget to go inside portals since you would have to open a switch to pass a gate, even in areas filled with enemies. There are also caves, which might help you out finding rare stuff, like the cards, weapons, but they can also waste your time! You might end up with nothing in the end so stay alert.
The sound was not really good. I personally didn't like it at all and it might be some circumstances where the sound happens before the collision or other stuff like that. There was actually nothing you might remember off and I personally muted it. You might like it though, it is your own choice.
Overall the game is a must for the cheap price of 1$ and you really can afford it to help the developers. This doesn't mean that you have to buy the game, but if you like it, you can also help them create better games or move on with a new sequel of this game. There are also more games like this one, like Monster RPG 2 game that we have already reviewed and it could be clearly a much better option since it is totally free to download. Don't get distracted if you don't like it, since this doesn't mean the end of video games. Happy playing!
