How we rate the games?
Ace Combat Assault Horizon Enhanced Edition is an added version of its original. I clearly remember the amazing game on PlayStation 1 and it was quite a success at that time. Nowadays though you clearly have to be amazing on what you give out to the public and not just graphics. I mean that the same old game, is back with amazing graphics and it felt so real, you could barely feel real-life while playing.
The game's first impression was of course the graphics and the ability to fly everywhere I wanted, but there are very big downside which frustrated me a lot during gameplay. One thing is that the game itself needs much more optimization and I do understand that it all seems perfect. First of all, when another plane or jet comes at your back and starts shooting at you, you will normally slow down so you get at its back. The problem with that is that you actually don't really know when to press C and how to make it show to press C, because that is totally random. There is nothing which tells you which side to turn and that is very awful, making you sometimes lose your 30 minutes game.
Another concept in the game which was tremendous, was the problem with going to the back of another plane, if the plane is slower than you. That is simply frustrating and I had to retry a lot of times a mission, that it bored me too much, making me want to uninstall the game because you can't pass the mission if you don't destroy the bomber planes going to the city. There are a lot of people telling their frustration over the net and I personally think that it has nothing to do with your logic since you will randomly get the opportunity to get at the back of the plane, but what was worse here, when other jets get into your way, you simply couldn't tail the plane and released your chase, waiting for a big surprise at your back, some sweet rockets.
Apart from all what I said, everything seemed perfectly optimized and I can tell you that simulating planes like this game does, is extremely difficult. It felt so real and I personally enjoyed the game, except of course the frustrations and some other stuff I will discuss in a minute. When I started playing the game, I felt bad for the menu being worse than that of PS1, but as the story goes, games are becoming worse and worse each time they release a new version of it.
One thing I didn't like, were the too long missions, but I liked the idea of checkpoints where you could save your game automatically and move on from the point you saved your game. There were very awful missions and I saw them as a very bad addition to this game, like the scoped bombs you had to throw to those people and tanks even though your vision was completely blue. It might be exactly as in real life, but it was extremely boring and you feel like you lost minutes from your life.
As wise as it gets, sound is somewhat good and somewhat bad. I tremendously hated the bullets sound, but liked the rocket sound or the moment where you got your plane tailing back a jet. The bad sounds where tremendously irritating and repetitive that made me shut down the speakers. The choice would be yours though, since you might like those boring sounds.
The graphics and gameplay are the most important parts of this game, but a lot of bad stuff ruined this game totally. Even though they tried to simulate things just like in real life, the game had a lot of problems to deal with and it might have caused a lot of bad reputation to this game. No matter what I said, this game has its ups and downs so don't feel uncomfortable trying it out!
