The remake of old games
We are seeing more and more old titles coming to life again with modern graphics. Naturally we start thinking why those games weren't remade before or why they don't do a totally new version of the game. We are not going to talk about the licenses and stuff like that, but bear in mind that a big percentage of games wasn't having a remake because the devs or the companies asked great amount of money and they would normally issue everyone who recreates those games.
The more time passes and the more games remade we see. This is mainly because game engines with full capabilities are spreading around lately and we are even seeing young developers whom at the age of 13 start to shine. This is mainly because they are using a game engine or pre-made code for them and not because they are truly wizards like most of people think. The wizardry is done behind the scenes and it seems fortunate that almost every game developer is trying to create a game with those free game engines.
Unfotunately for them, they end up creating not so great games or very basic games while copying the code of others and trying to make a mix without understanding it. All in all, the true devs are those who learn by creating their own game engine from scratch, mainly with C++ but this is just the mainstream because you can use whatever other language that you feel comfortable with. Since those game engines are so easy to start with, they stuck the young programmer with those games learned by 5 minutes or one hour tutorials. It is normal that they don't know anything what is happening behind the scenes and they are really giving some kind of bad example to those true coders.
Creating games is not an easy job, or better saying it is one of the most difficult tasks a programmer can do. It is not possible for a young programmer by the age of 13 to know derivates, integrals, physics, colisions and on top of this, graphics and coding. Since the game engines make this possible, it seems like those people are truly capable of the things they are doing. The same thing can be said for the game companies who can make games with a smaller budget and its devs don't need so much knowledge anymore. They quickly make use of a free game engine and from one single dev we have some many indie games.
This is the main reason why those old games are getting remakes. They attract a lot of attention by their fans and story-tellers, level editors and people who work on this stuff is not needed at all. The cost to create a remake is much lower and we will see more and more games in the near future. The game engines also allow the developer to port the game very easily to smartphones or tablets with very little change from the original version.
If you are a dev yourself, which path would you choose? The use of a game engine without so much knoledge or to create your own game engine, thus shifting at a later date to a free one? We really hope that your choices are for the best of gaming. Don't forget to leave your opionion below or share this article if you feel to.Discuss more on the forums
